The news is depressing, as Ze Frank once would have said. I wonder what he's doing now...

Trawling through the more obscure branches of the interwebs can lead to interesting results. I don't know if this was inspired by GarfieldminusGarfield, or vice versa, or not at all, but it seems that when you replace Garfield with a normal cat, you still get a comic that is much funnier than regular Garfield comics.

Idrewthis.org seems to have slowed to a standstill, sadly. He makes a good point, though. And thus I present a second comic.

(edit: in case you're not that familiar with American political iconography, the elephant represents the Republican party. The Democratic party is represented by a donkey. I have no idea why this is the case.)

Her resilience in making amateur music videos despite a barrage of criticism pleases me immensely. (Mostly because I often do the same thing myself.) So it's been a while. I've had every part of the excuse spectrum thrown at me, from pure forgetfulness, to a week-long holiday to various parts of the South Coast (pretty awesome, by the way), to Blogger actually locking me out of Blogger. And Honours, as always, blows giant chunks of time out of my time. Still.
A comic from ihartdarth.com. This one might not be funny if you haven't seen the new Star Wars trilogy (ie episodes I-III), but it made me lol, because that little dialogue in the movie is just so damn ridiculous!

Lolcats are awesome, but this lolbird cracks me up to this very day.

This one's not so much a lol as it is mildly humourous, but Wikipedia has a list of every problem solved my MacGyver. Oh yes, some people really do have this much time on their hands.

I don't know if anyone's been watching the Gruen Transfer of late, but I caught an episode the other night and loved it to death. Explore their site; it's an amazingly funny, intellectual look at the way media works, with emphasis on advertising.

Now, my blogs here are never very 'tube heavy, but I feel like I should put in just one. It's the new ad for the American Discovery Channel, and while it might not make you laugh out loud, id it doesn't warm your heart then you don't have one. Oh, and it spawned a recent XKCD comic.

Terribly sorry etc. As the hours turned into days and the end of semester squeeze got tighter and tighter I thought "I could do my lols late, or I could go out for coffee". And that was that.

So it's a weekender DLOL posting from me, it seems. This isn't because I forgot, but since we were promised a contribution from Fillet on Thursday, and got a posting from JoJ on Friday, I thought I'd forgo until later.

Last night was our end-of-uni formal, which was 110% awesome. Good food, terrible wine and awesome company - I got to catch u p with some people I haven't really seen in months, or years. That's the way it goes, I guess, but it was a great night.

Anyway, it's time for loltime. I got introduced to the Scratch and Burn team a while back; apparently they had a run on MTV once upon a time or something. Here is arguably their best ever work: Hamlet in One Minute.

Oh how I lol'd. (Speaking of, when using "lol" as a verb, should the past tense be loled, lolled or lol'd? Hmm...)

Yeah. So this will be another mostly picture-driven lol, but it's also good to mix things up a bit. Luckily, I've got a decent stock of lolpics in the various far reaches of my computer which I look at now and again to stave off the onset of university-based depression, so it's no big deal to share a couple with you kids when I've been neglecting the 'tubes.
Yeah yeah, it's long past April Fools', I still get a dark little laugh out of actually imagining someone in that position. I suspect it would be slightly damp, with occasional patches of wanting to hang the wardens.

Also, from the same school of artistry that brought us Captain Oblivious and his Amazing See-Thorough Eyepatch, we have another comic segment which takes at least a bronze medal at the No Prize Olympics:

Facebook finally seems to have exhausted its mine of adlols. It's a shame really - because I loved them ever so.

John's Engrish entry yesterday was rather portentous I think, for I have found this little gem on the Cute With Chris blog. I won't give it all away, but it includes the following quote:

So there's really been no good enough excuse for my absence. All I will say is that, if you remember how I've consistently said "whew, what a week", then consider that that was me balancing just on this side of having the time to do non-work related things.

But that's not going to make anybody lol, so let's get into the good stuff with the adventures of Bob and his Half-beard (with accompanying theme music)!

Adventures of Bobert and the Half Beard

Bobert has some funny Vlog-styled movies on his site. Nerdy as I am, I'm a big fan of his Final Fantasy XII video. It's funny even if you haven't played the game, because he's really not exaggerating.

Another gem from the depths of Icanhascheezburger. I feel like the cat is the part of me that knows how much I've got to do, and the man is the part of me that has to actually do the stuff and would rather be making animated sticktoons.

Similarly, in looking for recent lolcats to include, this one really did make me lol. And I'm in a computer lab.

I had more lolcats from days gone by, but they're at home, where I can access MSN, but nothing else on the Internet. I understand it not.

Oh hey, ever wanted to see a Internet personage actually react to his hate mail? Yeah, me neither, especially when people like Maddox do it. I get the feeling he used to be so talented, but for want of a less Star Wars-sounding allegory, got consumed by hatred and the Dark Side.

But Yahtzee, as is his way, has carried off the whole deal with a reasonable amount of panache...

(Yes, I drew the inspiration for my art style from his. No, it's not copying - I've got some significant differences - both now and in upcoming videos).

A friend of mine joined the group, "Ten reasons why gay marriage is wrong". I clicked through, and found their arguments to be very compelling. Read on:

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Now... I know trying to find humour in a Frezned video is like trying to find reflections in a mirror, but this is still my all-time favourite among his videos (back in the days when he had looong hair).

There have been no new limericks on limerickdb.com since FOR EVER! This makes me sad, the very opposite of lolling.

This is a concept put forward by Randall Munroe of XKCD.
The idea is made of pure win. And also awesome. To put it simply, it generates random locations across America each day (down to specific latitude and longitude points), and people can meet there. A new location, impossible to predict, every day. Already there have been several meetups between XKCD readers, and the whole concept is just amazing. There's more detail here, if my explanation doesn't do it for you.

I would love to see one of these made up for Australia, but some 75% of the time, the location would be somewhere in our vast central desert system. Though, his algorithm manages to avoid the position landing in water, so maybe it'd be possible to adapt it...

I'm more than slightly interested in emailing him to ask...

How's that for fashion?! This is funny on so many levels I can't begin to describe it!

If you're not familiar with the whatthebuckshow, then that's okay, although even dirty non-subscribers like me are familiar with him. The following tweet by him left me highly amused for reasons that are probably obvious, but I shall not disclose.

The other day I re-checked out Marieke Hardy's blog. I'd read it once before ages ago and was less than impressed, but now - well I have never laughed so hard at the word 'coconut' in my entire life!

I'm not sure about you, but I don't like to read political blogs. Particularly conservative political blogs like Michelle Malkin. But when I clicked on a link to her blog that I found on the delightful site Chase Me Ladies, I'm in the Cavalry I couldn't help but lol.

So it turns out that despite my empassioned tweet, the internet at large is not sympathetic to my pleas for lolhelp. The only love I got was from Lorcan, who sent me this:

I've not had the best few days (uni deadlines will do that to a person) so I haven't been on the lookout for new lols. I did, however, manage to scrounge up a few and find some in my lolfolder.

Well I don't know about you, but it seems to me that it all goes down in Western Australian state parliament.

Liberal MPs have contacted The Sunday Times claiming a former Liberal female staffer was the victim of a "chair sniffing'' incident in Mr Buswell's parliamentary office when he was a deputy to former leader, Matt Birney, in 2006.

The prodigal is back. Sorry about last week, but I can make up for it by introducing my friend Tom who can fill in for Friday this week if everyone's cool with that. He's shown me his lols and they're pretty good!

But now I've got a good two weeks worth of lols built up, so let's go.

I'm constantly surprised as to how humourous Wikipedia can be sometimes. This list of humourous units of measurement particularly tickles my funny-bone. Not sure how for-real most of these are (almost none of them have sources) they could have just been made up by some dude typing away on his computer, rather than by a magazine like MAD which was trying to by funny. You know, real fake units of humourous measurement.

I'm terribly sorry for my absences... I wasn't actually away last Monday, but i was so busy i didn't really have time to post. Life's been keeping me on my toes. Apart from flying interstate every second weekend to work I've had loads of assignments from school, and tones of scripts to learn. Plus I got a new laptop and decided to take my chances with a mac, which turned out not be a good thing as I've just returned the third one they've given me. That's right, three faulty ones in a row. And there still fucking me around. It gives me the shits.

Behold: the astoundingly outrageous political slant of 1940s American comic books!

They've gone meta! Forget "the Jews killed Jesus", in fact it was the killers who killed the Jews who killed Jesus. Yeah. Peopel were not subtle in the WWII era.

In the genre of really dodgy comic book covers, take a long, hard look at these two panels, and see if you can spot the problem.

I took embarrassingly long to get it, as did my housemate. It's worth the effort - you'll burst out laughing when you see it.

Not a grammatical problem, but instead a British-born, Australian game reviewer who has a muchly hilarious job creating animated reviews for The Escapist magazine. I recently had the opportunity to spend some time at St. Johns Anglican Church in Mudgee, NSW.

Not a typical haunt for John, I'll concede. I was there primarily for the Baptism of my cousin.

At one point during proceedings I looked up and saw the following banner on the wall.

It's my day to blog, and I'm too busy going nom nom nom eating Chinese food. Yes, that is the sound people make while eating. Nom. Nom. Nom.

What's happened to me this week, hmm. Well, like I alluded in my last post, I'm another year older as of yesterday,and still no wiser. We hit up the clubbing scene in Sydney on the weekend - 'twas mighty good fun. That said, it meant I've spent not much time looking for new lols.

Sorry sorry sorry guys. I completely fail at finding lols this week. And at simple grammar. Apparently.

At MY music festival there was many a lol to be had, but none that really translate into stories that are able to be told. But what the hell I'll give it a go anyway.

I was camping at the festival and while there I met these girls who were actually from Toowoomba itself (but were still camping for some reason). In Toowoomba there must be something in the water (ooh snap! Oh wait, nobody's going to get that) because these girls were hilarious!

Essentially they would sit outside their tent and accost people as they walked by with questions like how does the Bohemian Rhapsody start? and statements like Let me see your zoid zoid! Let me see your zoid zoid! Never mind that nobody has the faintest idea what a zoid is. Neither did they. Once a person had answered the question, they'd get them to recite the Bohemian Rhapsody or to demonstrate their best dance move. It was pure gold.

Other campers would run around with a couch that had speakers embedded in it which would play music. At seemingly random moments they would spring to their feet and move the couch to a new location. While moving they would collect a crowd of dancing people who would stay for a minute or two before getting bored and drifting on.

I also saw my old principal's son dressed as Spiderman.

Hmm. Not being on the internet for a week makes it difficult to find funny stuff. I'm sure I'll be back to form next week.

Folk Festival Flippancy*

So I have just returned from The National Folk Festival in Canberra, where, by far the funniest thing I saw was a couple of guys doing a great cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic."

I also watched some Morris Dancers. After a performance one of the dancers fell to the floor. Another dancer quickly surveyed the audience for someone who could provide "the kiss of life."

A girl kissed him on the cheek and every other dancer on the stage instantly fell to the floor. Funny stuff

I also ran into Leuke, and before any of you ask... yes, he is just like he is in his videos. Only in colour. I'm glad we could clear that up.

Let's start the ball rolling with a little story...

European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'.

I've decided my definition of 'manly lols' is any lol that doesn't include a kitten. In Joel can do better, then so be it but I have decided the internet is a place manly men go in order to giggle without shame.

Okay, I was going to concede the lack-of-manly-lols thing, but if Fillet can give himself another week, so can I.

Woo, what a week. From last Thursday to today, I don’t think my feet have touched the ground even once. Serves me right for making the career choices I’ve made, I guess.

I’ve got high-speed Internet again at last, meaning that I’ve been able to do a bit of ’Tubing, and I’ve been getting up to speed on the recent work samples from the Vancouver Film School. Students put up their animation reels, short videos and scripts up on YouTube for the world to see, and they’re generally very, very awesome. Let’s see if I’ve figured out how to embed video in Blogspot yet…

Birthday Edition

I swear I didn't know my birthday would be on the same day I was doing my lols this year. As a result the manly lol post will be shoved unceremoniously back to next week. Also I couldn't find any. Also I don't really know what constitutes a manly lol so I want to give myself some more time.

This morning I woke up and found siting in my bathroom a suitcase which contained a pair of shoes, a t-shirt (see my blog for an explanation) and this card:

I subsequently received an SMS message from the David I knew, saying, "Hey Lacey, did you hear I got hit by lightning and died?!"

(I could've had this blog posted three hours ago, but circumstance is a fickle, fickle patron. Still.)

Hi guys, name's Joel, and here's my first contribution to the daily lol!

Since I’m the New Guy, I figure I should start with a quick intro. I’m a research student at a university in NSW, where I’m studying Education. I have a really broad taste in just about everything, including humour, but not many people who don’t know me get my jokes. *Plays the world’s smallest violin*. I’ve had three text blogs and a vlog in the past – most of them have fallen by the wayside, but I’ll link up my main blog in the vague hope someone might actually read it. Anyway, enough about me, let’s get into the funny! For my first trick, I’m starting close to home. There are some very strange signs around the place if you look for them, and these are two of my all time favourites.

This sign I found outside the local Aldi. BEWARE, they say! I spent the whole trip home nervously waiting for a pedestrian to jump out of the bushes and attack the car…

Warning! This box may attack at any time! Do not get too close! Well, that’s what the caption on this should’ve read. Instead, it was the warning label on – wait for it – a circuit box. You know: those yellow boxy things that route power around parts of a city. Given they’re bolted to the ground, and have neither doors nor legs, I have no idea what this sign is meant to mean.

In other news, I didn’t watch many YouTube videos this week – our Internet connection right now would make dying snails feel good about their turn of speed. But I’ve got an old favourite of mine to show you – it has a very high level of awesome.

Finally, the man behind XKCD.com has put together a limericks database, which never fails to make me laugh. It's user-generated, so there's always something new to read. Try saying this one out loud, or even in your head:

Hey! We got our first comment yesterday! I'm so glad we have an audience besides ourselves... Considering RLWOOD asked so nicely I'll include not so many YouTube videos in today's lols. I can't really watch them either, RLWOOD. My connection is too slow!

Previously on my own blog I talked about the day I went to Wet 'n Wild with my church. What I didn't tell you there, however, that it was worth the entire price of admission just to hear a friend of mine say 'fuck' when he went down the Tornado with me and two others. He was absolutely petrified! I laughed all the way down.

It's no secret that Cute With Chris is one of my favourite shows on the internet, it always makes me lol, but he also has a blog which is updated several times a day with his cutery. People also send stuff to him. One of his latest entries, entitled 'Jugs are for coffee' cracked me up.

I guess you could say I find cute funny. That's the only conclusion I could come to. Lolcats and Cute With Chris just really pushes my funny-buttons. I'll spare you the lolcats for today. But Chris, he is amazing - did you know that?

I have been told it is my day, and we have a new format of posting. I'm sending this as an e-mail, but it's gonna appear as a blog! crazy!

Woa! I'm like, all out of loljuice. Of course, I could just fill this up with more kind-of-funny lolcats or other stuff this is kind of lol, but that wouldn't be doing the lols justice. Instead I'll just focus on a very few things that made me lol.
